If you’ve been reading our other articles, you probably would’ve realized just how many time we urge every blogger, to find a niche that works for their blog.

But it’s not like we’re doing it just cause we like doing it. You see, the reason why we keep telling every blogger to find a niche is that because it’s absolutely necessary. But the reason we keep repeating that advice is that because it’s necessary if you want to make money from blogging in Malaysia.

Here’s why.

According to Statista.com, in 2018, there are 30.6 million bloggers in the United States of America alone. The numbers are expected to rise every year, with an estimate of 31.7 million bloggers in USA alone.

Yes, that’s just in the USA. What this basically means is that your blog will have to compete against millions and millions other blogs to gain an audience.

But this doesn’t mean that you should give up now. Sure, the number sounds daunting, but even among the sea of bloggers, there is a place for your blog.

That place, is your niche.

In case you still don’t understand what a niche is, well a niche is basically a specialty topic for you and your blog. A niche is what separates your blog from the others.

How To Choose Your Niche

Pick A Topic That You’re Interested In

Some people think that writing a blog is easy. You just sit in front of your computer all day, and you don’t even have to go to the office. But when you do it, you’ll realize that it’s not as simple as you think. Especially if you’re looking to make it a full time job. Honestly, it’s draining, frustrating, and tiring.

Hence why you should always pick a topic that you’re interested in. Maintaining a blog might be hard, but if you pick a niche you’re interested in then at least writing will not be such a drag.

Do Some Market Research

Now that you have an idea of what your niche is going to be, what’s next? Well the next step will be doing some market research on your niche.

The idea behind doing market research is to ensure that the niche you chose has an audience. If you chose a too obscure niche, you might end up with no readers or audience for your blog, as no one is interested in your topic.

So how do you check if there is a market for your niche? Simple. Just go on Google Trends, enter your keyword there, and check the interest over time graph.

In this example, we chose “gadgets” as our niche. As you can see, the interest in “gadgets” has always been steady, and even exhibited a sudden rise at one point.

It’s important for you to choose a niche with a steady interest, so that you don’t end up losing your audience over time.

Check How Competitive Your Blog’s Niche Is

After Do, the next step should be checking how competitive the niche is. Why? Simple. Even if you choose a niche, you’re not really doing your blog’s chances any favours if the niche you chose is not competitive at all, or too competitive.

So how do you do this? Simple. Just perform a google search, and take a look at the results page. You don’t want to compete with too many established companies, so try finding or refining your niche into being something that is only yours. Pick a smaller niche, but make sure you will still have your audience.

A google search of your niche will reveal just how competitive is the field your niche is in. In this case, we can see what websites are direct competitors with our blog.

Make Sure Your Blog’s Niche Is Profitable

And finally, you need to make sure that your niche is profitable. After all, even if the audience is there, there’s relatively little competition, and your blog is doing well, it doesn’t really mean that much if your blog is not making you any money, is it?

An easy way to check the profitability is to perform another google search of your niche. If you see ads on your niche, then your topic is good to go.

Picking a profitable niche will also make it easier for you to affiliate yourself with affiliate programs such as Amazon Affiliate Programme, Shopee, Lazada, and all that. This is how you ensure that you get money from blogging in Malaysia.
