SiteGiant Review : How Good Is Malaysia’s Own E-Commerce Platform?

Before this, we’ve looked at a couple of eCommerce platforms already. We’ve reviewed the undisputed king, Shopify, and also their closest challenger, BigCommerce. But both of these eCommerce platforms have one thing in common, which is that they’re international. Some might think that it’s good that they’re globally renowned, and internationally based. But, it also means that they might be ill equipped to handle the typical Malaysian customers. So in today’s review, we’re going to be looking at Malaysia’s own eCommerce platform, Sitegiant. So sit back, make yourself a cup of coffee, and read up on our Sitegiant review.

Now in our previous articles, we’ve mentioned how important it is for you as a fledgling online entrepreneur to choose the right eCommerce platform. Choosing the wrong eCommerce platform might mean the difference between making or breaking your company.

And as we’ve also mentioned earlier above, although Shopify and BigCommerce might be globally renowned, and SiteGiant is a local eCommerce platform. But this might also mean that SiteGiant might be able to offer features that will resonate more with the Malaysian crowd.

So let’s take a look at them and the features they offer, and see if they’re the best option for a Malaysian eCommerce entrepreneur.

Popularity, Plans And Pricing

For those of you who have never heard of SiteGiant before, let’s start with a brief introduction. SiteGiant is a leading eCommerce platform in Malaysia, and was established in the year 2013. They provide a range of e-commerce services, and allow merchants to sell their products on multiple channels.

In case you don’t know, the reason why we include the popularity of the eCommerce platform as one of the factors to consider in our eCommerce review is simple. How popular an eCommerce platform also shows how stable the eCommerce platform is. If it’s really popular and has hundreds of thousands of users, it means that the platform is not in any danger of going under any time soon.

This saves you from having to move your online store to another platform if the platform you’re using folds.

Hence, now that we’ve established the reason popularity is important, just how popular is SiteGiant?

Very popular. Along with EasyStore, SiteGiant is one of two most popular local eCommerce platforms in Malaysia. According to their website; SiteGiant currently boasts

  • More than 3500 active sellers per month
  • Used by tons of top Malaysian merchants such as Hoop Station, Gempak Starz, Pallas, and more.
  • More than 750 million total Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV).

So based on these statistics, you can see that SiteGiant is a very popular eCommerce platform, perhaps even the most popular eCommerce platform in Malaysia.

Plans And Pricing

SiteGiant review
SiteGiant offers 4 main plans at different pricepoints, depending on your needs.

As seen from their website, SiteGiant comes with four plans, each with different features and prices. The simplest and least expensive plan is Unicart Basic, which is RM590 per year. Their most expensive plan is Unicart Business, which costs RM2890 each year.

Now let’s have a rough look at all the plans they offer.

UniCart Basic UniCart Pro UniCart Pro Plus UniCart Business

But is there anything else they offer? Now for this part of our SiteGiant review, we’re going to have a detailed rundown of each and every plan from SiteGiant.

Unicart Basic

As you can see from the picture above, SiteGiant’s first plan is also their cheapest, the Unicart Basic plan. This plan costs RM590/year (RM49.20/month). Unicart Basic is geared towards startup businesses, and the features they offer reflects that as well. With the Unicart Basic plan, you’ll be getting a webstore, Facebook commerce, automated dropshipping, and a free eCommerce training to help you run your online business.

Unicart Pro

As shown by their Pricing page, Unicart Pro is where it starts getting serious. Priced at RM1290/year (RM107.50/month). With Unicart Pro, You’ll be getting all the perks of Unicart Basic, but with a few additional features. One of these features is the additional 1 staff account, the ability to make gift vouchers and newsletters, Google shopping ads integration, and Malaysia Marketplace sync.

Unicart Pro Plus

The next plan offered by SiteGiant is the Unicart Pro Plus plan, which is priced at RM1390/year (RM115.84/month). According to SiteGiant, this is the most popular plan from the local eCommerce platform. Now this might seem weird to you guys, how come there is only a RM100 difference between the Unicart Pro Plus plan and the Unicart Pro plan? Features And Ease of Use

For a user, there are several main factors to be considered before you decide to go with an eCommerce platform. But even among those main factors, there are some which carries more weight than others.

The first point of consideration for a user will always be the price. Is it affordable or not. Then, it will be the features. Am I getting what I’m paying for? Should I just shell out more money for better features? And the last one is the ease of use. How easy it is to use? Can I use it with minimal technical expertise?

So it makes sense that in our SiteGiant Review, the next thing we’re going to look at is the features and the ease of use of SiteGiant.

So for this part of our SiteGiant review, let’s first look at the notable features offered within SiteGiant.

Marketplace Sync

SiteGiant review
SiteGiant’s Malaysian Marketplace Sync allows you to sell on every prominent marketplace in Malaysia with one click.

The first notable feature that should be discussed is SiteGiant’s own Malaysia Marketplace Sync.

With this feature, SiteGiant allows you to sync all your products with the online marketplaces of your choice.

If you want to sell your products on other online platforms, you can don’t have to do it one by one. You can use the marketplace sync feature.

This allows you to sell on every prominent marketplace in Malaysia, such as Lazada, Amazon, Shopee, eBay, and more.

Now this is what I mean by SiteGiant, being a local Malaysian company, offering features that is super relevant to Malaysian online stores. SiteGiant understands that most of Malaysian online customers likes doing their online purchases on marketplaces, so they offer this feature to help them with it.

However, this feature is not available in SiteGiant’s Unicart Basic plan. To be able to use it, you must have the Unicart Pro plan or higher.

Free Full-Day eCommerce Training

SiteGiant review
SiteGiant offers free eCommerce training for every single one of their subscribers, to help them suceed with their business.

Here’s another very useful feature offered by SiteGiant that stands out to me.

With a purchase of any of their plans, SiteGiant provides users with a free full-day training on setting up an online store.

This is especially useful if you are starting out, or have no prior experience with an online business. It will be a good learning experience, and is also a great opportunity for you to connect with other entrepreneurs.

Once again, this is a feature that reflects on SiteGiant’s target audience, which is local Malaysian eCommerce entrepreneurs.

eCommerce is still a new and fledgling industry in Malaysia, so it makes sense that most of them are going to need some training.

Cross-Border Marketplace Sync

In this SiteGiant review, we’ve mentioned how the Malaysian Marketplace sync feature from SiteGiant is amazingly useful for Malaysian eCommerce entrepreneurs.

Now for the people who want to further their reach, SiteGiant offers something that’s called the Cross-Border Marketplace sync. This allows you to sync with not only the local version of Lazada, Amazon, Shopee, and eBay, but also the regional and the global version of them as well.

This allows your online store to get customers not only locally, but globally as well. Furthermore, it can also lead to exposure to a whole new base of customers that were not accessible to you before this.

Facebook Sync

SiteGiant review
SiteGiant allows you to sync your inventory, your products, and everything else to your Facebook page.

Another feature that is super helpful for Malaysian online store owners, SiteGiant has a tool that syncs all your products from your e-commerce site to Facebook automatically. This allows you to reach a wider audience, and saves you the time of having to do it yourself.

This shows just how much SiteGiant undertands the target market in Malaysia. Much rather than buying from websites, the Malaysian audience would much rather buy from the Facebook marketplace, or from Facebook pages altogether. This helps them do exactly that.

Ease Of Use

After discussing the notable features of SiteGiant, let’s look at how easy is SiteGiant to use. After all, what use is all these pretty features if the users don’t know how to use it?

Drag And Drop Layout Manager

Fortunately, in terms of editing your website, you won’t have any problems with SiteGiant. With their Drag and Drop layout manager, even people with the most minimal technical knowledge can edit their website to their liking.

You don’t need to have a background in IT or know how to code to take advantage of this feature. It is fairly simple and straightforward to use.

Free Full-Day eCommerce Training

And again, we have to mention this from SiteGiant. It’s a feature, but it also helps budding eCommerce business owners with starting up. In this training, they will teach you everything about SiteGiant, and how to use the features that comes with it.

Therefore, ease of use is not a problem with SiteGiant, because SiteGiant will teach you how to use their features in the training programme.

Themes And Design

One of the biggest problems an eCommerce store can have is failing to stand out. This can happen due to many reasons, but more often than not it happens due to the lack of originality of their online store.

How are you going to stand out, if your website looks the same with everyone elses? Which is why in this section of the SiteGiant review, we’re going to look at the Themes and Designs offered by SiteGiant.

SiteGiant review
SiteGiant offers 30+ free templates for their users.

Now the themes and templates section is where we can see the first weakness of SiteGiant. SiteGiant only offers 30+ free templates for their users, which is not really that extensive to be honest.

With only 30+ free templates, and over 3500 users, you’re will find a similar looking website on the Internet sooner or later.

But this issue is further exacerbated by the fact that out of all 30+ free templates offered by SiteGiant, only a number of them is mobile friendly.

This further narrows down your selection, due to the importance of mobile responsiveness nowadays. Without proper mobile responsiveness, your shop might be losing out on mobile customers, and your SEO will be adversely affected.

Of course, the lack of Templates on SiteGiant can be offset if the platform allows us to design and tweak the template according to our liking.

So now on our Shopify review, let’s look at the design capabilities of SiteGiant.

SiteGiant review
This is SiteGiant’s Unicart dashboard, where you can edit your storefront and tweak the website according to your liking.

Fortunately, with the ‘Build’ capabilities of their platform, you are able to tweak your website with much freedom.

Here, you can tweak every single segment of your website, and adjust it to be however you like. You can even add in more segments if you want, and remove those that you don’t like.

With this capability, you can create a thoroughly original website. The only drawback is that it requires some level of technical understanding.

So after everything’s been said and done in our SiteGiant Review, what’s the verdict? Should you go for SiteGiant as your eCommerce platform?

Well, the answer to that is absolutely. SiteGiant is an eCommerce platform made by Malaysians for Malaysians, and the features it provides clearly puts that to the forefront.

Of course, compared to eCommerce giants such as Shopify, BigCommerce, and others, they are a little lacking, but they make up for it by understanding their local audience.

If you’re a Malaysian looking to make the foray to online business, then you definitely should sign up for SiteGiant.
